Lesson No. 10: What Does the Bible Teach About Making a Joyful Noise to the Lord? (Psalm 100:1)

COMMENT: The Lord wants us to be a joyful people.  The kind of joy that comes from the Lord is very special.  According to Nehemiah 8:10, what does the joy of the Lord become to the Christian?
Nehemiah 8:10  He said to them, "Go and eat delicacies and drink sweet drinks and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared. For this day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

 

To be able to make a joyful noise to the Lord, you must first have the joy of the Lord within you.  Let's consider joy & singing.

 1. According to Psalm 126:5, what sometimes comes first before the joy?
Psalm 126:5  Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest.

 

2. What did Paul say would fulfill his joy in Philippians 2:2?
Phillipians 2:2  complete my joy and be of the same mind, by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose.

 

3. What did Jesus do knowing the joy that was set before Him? 
Hebrews 12:2
  keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

  

4. What did John say was his greatest joy?
1John 1:4  Thus we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

 

5. According to Psalm 5:11, why are we to be joyful?
Psalm 5:11  But may all who take shelter in you be happy! May they continually shout for joy! Shelter them so that those who are loyal to you may rejoice!

 

6. What should cause our soul to be joyful and rejoice? 
Psalm 35:9  Then I will rejoice in the
Lord and be happy because of his deliverance.

 

7. With what kind of lips are we to praise the Lord? 
Psalm 63:5  As if with choice meat you satisfy my soul. My mouth joyfully praises you,

 

 

8. With what will the Lord rejoice over us? 
Zephaniah 3:17  The
Lord your God is in your midst; he is a warrior who can deliver. He takes great delight in you; he renews you by his love; he shouts for joy over you."

 

9. How will the Lord joy over us, according to Zephaniah 3:17.

 

COMMENT: We see that joy sometimes comes through suffering and always when we fellowship with God and His people.  It is interesting to see that the Lord Himself has a song, according to #9, for the Lord joys over us with singing.  What does the Bible say about singing?

10. What phrase is repeated in the following verses?
Psalm 66:1  Shout out praise to God, all the earth!

 Psalm 81:1  Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob!

 Psa 95:1  Come! Let's sing for joy to the Lord! Let's shout out praises to our protector who delivers us!

 Psa 100:1  Shout out praises to the Lord, all the earth!

11. According to Ephesians 5:19, what are we to be doing in our heart?
Ephesians 5:19  speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord,

 

COMMENT: God wants us to make a joyful noise to Him.  He is not so much concerned whether we can sing with a beautiful voice or in the right key.  What He desires is that we sing with our whole heart.  When we come together as Christians to sing, there is nothing more beautiful then when we sing with all our hearts.

12. How long does the Lord want us to sing?  Psalm 104:33

COMMENT: To really sing with our heart, we must have a heart that is right with the Lord.  We must be in love with our Saviour.  Look through the hymns in a church hymnbook and become acquainted with the words and the thought behind the music.

 14. Of what should or meditation (thoughtful thinking) be?
Psalm 104:34  May my thoughts be pleasing to him! I will rejoice in the
Lord
.

 

15. What was the Psalmist's meditation in Psalm 119:97.
Psalm 119:97  O how I love your law! All day long I meditate on it.

 

16. To really be able to sing and be right with the Lord, what is necessary, according to Psalm 119:11?
Psalm 119:11  In my heart I store up your words, so I might not sin against you.

COMMENT: If you have trusted in Christ as your Savior, then sing to Him with all your heart!!!!!!
