LEARNING TO LIVE

Lesson Four: What Happens When a Christian Sins?

Comment: We know that when a Christian sins, he does not lose his salvation. However, being saved eternally does not give one the right to do wrong.

John 20:17  Jesus *said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.'"

  1. What is our relationship to God when once we believe in Jesus for salvation?

1John 3:1  See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

  1. How does God refer to believers?

Hebrews 12:7  It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline?

  1. What does it say a good father will do with his children?

  1. Thus, we are still in the family when we sin, but we do receive discipline.

Hebrews 12:6  FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."

  1. What is the first thing a loving father will do when his child sins?

  1. If His child continues to sin, what does a good father do next?

Comment: Notice that the Father still deals with his children as his children. God doesn’t take away the gift of becoming a Child of God, rather, He disciplines his children when they do wrong.
